Recipe Disasters of 2025!
Welcome to my most messed up recipes of the past year!

I’ve been sharing my recipe fails online for at least 15 years and here I am, back with 2025’s version!
Per usual, I had tons of fails in the kitchen this year. These are just a few that I was able to document! That I remembered to snap a pic of in the (annoying) moment.
You can find all the previous recipe disasters here:
This is a just a fun way to share all my mess ups in the kitchen. I cook SO MUCH and many times, I redo takes on classic recipes I know and love. But because I’m in the kitchen so much, it’s not unusual for me to have failures. I mean, tons of failures. I like to document so we can all look back and laugh. It’s truly hilarious.
What was your biggest recipe fail this year?! I’d love to know.
2025 Recipe Disasters
Earlier this week I burnt all this bacon. I hate to tell you it’s not uncommon.
See, I like it super crispy and it goes from super crispy to black in .28 seconds.
Who wants a dry pasta bake! With dry cheese! And dry breadcrumbs!
I tried to make a lot of dubai chocolate stuff this year and every time, the filling would be way too liquidy and not crunchy enough.
Great photography here!! It’s like I feel into a 2008 vortex of my blog.

These are breadsticks.
I know.
Sheet pan cheese steak chicken. Nice and gray. YUM.
Clearly did not learn my lesson with the cheese steak.
This was my eggplant parm era but I kept burning the breaded eggplant. Whomp whomp.
Blackened skewers with peach salsa – the flavor did not work AT ALL. I will recreate a better version this summer.
Sad strawberry upside down cake. Very sad.
Just a few months ago, I tried to make you this eggnog cake and this was my first attempt.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I made tons of sourdough this year but the biggest fail was by far adding chocolate. It was just weird. Probably not the right amount, not added properly and just tasted like… burnt sour chocolate?
OMG. This dip. You guys. I don’t even know. It was something spinach but way too heavy on the sour cream and then I think I drizzled hot honey on it? Like WTF. I don’t even know where I was at this point in the year.
These glazed carrots were overly glazed AND I tried to make some sort of ricotta concotion that then separated and everything was watery and it was just gross. Gross enough for a run on sentence apparently.
This was a strawberry slaw that I was very excited about. Will probably revisit in the spring, because this one was terrible. Here’s to less fails in 2026!

I thought the strawberry upside down cake was an uncooked burger patty 🤣🤣🤣. This is my favorite post you do and I look forward to it each year!
Same, I also thought it was an uncooked burger! One of my favorite yearly posts.
I hate to say this is my favorite post of the year from you and I have never missed a year! I remember actually reading this when I had a 3 year old (where I was like it’s embedded in my mind). Now she’ll be 19 in a month. I love the 2008 vortex reference and I thought the strawberry item was an ahi tuna stack at first glance 😂 Here’s to an amazing 2026. Thank you for doing what you do!!!!
Oh Jess, I always appreciate you sharing these fails! It’s a good reminder to all of us that perfect doesn’t always happen the first (or second!) attempt in the kitchen. I did have to chuckle at the upside down strawberry cake because my first thought was “is that a raw hamburger patty?!” 😂 Thanks for so many delicious recipes in 2025!
Same! Raw hamburger, LOL
I love the tray of intestines at the top of the post! I started giggling as soon as it came up in my e-mail. Ahh, another great post.
Intestines?! Wow I thought they looked like a VERY different (nsfw) body part hahahahaha
This brings me joy every year!
Absolutely love the fact that you post these.
And those fails are why you are loved! We all do them ( and sometimes even with your perfectly photographed recipes.) Keep on doing you, Jess! Happy New Year!
I look so forward to this every year!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing! Where did you get those skewers? We love kebabs and are always looking for good skewers.
I have been reading your blog since before you had kids. LOVE it, yours is the top of my list. Love all the recipes and disasters you post plus hearing about your sweet family. I hope you have a fabulous new year!!
